The SIA has launched a survey looking at the private investigations industry. The deadline for submissions is 19th March 2010.

The SIA has launched a survey looking at the private investigations industry and have set up an online questionnaire for those working in the private investigations industry to share their views.

This is the best opportunity for individual and non-aligned private investigators to tell the SIA exactly what they think about the licensing of their industry and how it should go forward.

The SIA plans to license private investigation activities and wishes to gather information about the sector. For example, the type of activities individuals/companies engage in, their awareness of the SIA and their thoughts on regulation.

The SIA will use this feedback as a starting point to obtain information about the sector before licensing is introduced in order to identify changes to the industry  as a result of regulation.

The Security Industry Authority regulates the private security industry throughout the United Kingdom under the Private Security Industry Act 2001, reporting to the Home Secretary.

Its main duties are: the compulsory licensing of individuals undertaking designated activities; managing the voluntary Approved Contractor Scheme approving private security suppliers. They are committed to the Regulators' Compliance Code, a statutory code of practice for regulators that promotes a risk-based, proportionate and targeted approach.
